Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
