Administration officials disclosed the initiation of federal worker layoffs on the end of the week, following through on earlier warnings in response to the ongoing federal funding lapse, which is now poised to stretch into its third consecutive week.

Official Announcement and Early Information

The director of the White House budget office posted on a public platform that “reductions in force have begun,” referring to the government’s procedure for letting employees go.

While Vought provided no details on which agencies were affected, a representative from the Treasury Department stated that layoff warnings had been issued within that agency. Furthermore, a Department of Homeland Security representative indicated that staff reductions would take place at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Union Response and Court Actions

Labor representatives cautions that the terminations would have “devastating effects” on public services used by the public and pledged to challenge the actions in court.
